Philosophy Workshops

581985622At Curious Soul, we often say that “philosophy is a way of life.”

We mean that it’s a lifelong, open-ended process in which we examine assumptions and values, become aware of our beliefs and habits, consider alternative perspectives, experiment, learn, grow, choose, and change.

That’s what it takes to create and maintain a purposeful and self-directed existence. And we’re all in!

To live the philosophical life, we need some regular food for thought and an effective process for digesting it.

That’s what our philosophy workshops offer.

Philosophy workshops are study groups facilitated by a philosophy professor that focus on personally and politically relevant texts from the history of philosophy.

Looking for nourishment for the soul? That’s what we want, too!

It’s pretty rough these days being bombarded by a lot of drive-through junk talk on popular media.

SO not satisfying…

At Curious Soul, we’re starting a SLOW talk, and SLOW thought movement!

We want to nourish ourselves on carefully cultivated, substantial philosophical wisdom traditions.

We want to enrich our understanding of our world and ourselves.

We want to think critically and creatively.

We want to be inspired, glean new insights, and apply them to our lives.

We’re ready to go deep and study something again!

704376580We’re a community that examines life to make it better…

I suppose you’re wondering:

Does anybody read anymore?

We do. And our material is longer than a tweet.

Does anybody really talk anymore?

I know it seems radical these days to find people willing to TALK WITH each other rather than SHOUT AT each other. But we do it…  with curiosity and empathy.

Does anybody feel like they have something to learn from others anymore?

Yep. We don’t come to our sessions believing we already know it all. We come ready to ask some big questions. We delve into philosophical readings, listen to other people’s points of view and life experiences, and learn from each other.

The tribe you’ve been looking for…

When you’re a “big questions” or “deep thinker” type, it can be a little lonely. It’s hard to find people who are genuinely open to thinking through different points of view. And it can be tough to digest the challenging books you want to read without conversation partners.

Philosophy workshops give you the community and intellectual stimulation you have been craving.

Remember how you loved those small-group seminars in college? The ones with the deep books, the new perspectives, and the meaningful conversations?

They’re back!

Remember how it felt to find other people who liked to read, too… who also wanted to work out the big questions about their life?

We’re right here!

390442510These workshops are perfect for working adults…

I know what you’re thinking: “Do I have the time to take a course again?” I get it. Now there’s work, family, and all this “adulting” to do.

Don’t worry, though. This isn’t a 15-week course. It’s a three- or four-week workshop (once a week), with readings of a manageable size for all responsible adults.

No tests. No papers. No grades.

Plus, when you think about it…

Why is philosophy education confined to college classrooms of 18-21 year-olds anyway? At 21, life is just beginning. Now, we’ve got some serious experience under our belts, and we’re capable of engaging with philosophy on a much deeper level.

Now, we need it like never before!

We need to think about our experience. We need to question the status quo. And we need to develop new insights that will guide our lives long after our 20s.

And workshops are the perfect place for experimentation!

We’re not here just to read and talk.

We believe that questioning, reading, and discussing all lead to ACTION.

Theory and practice are connected, right? Or at least they should be.

Philosophy is all about living the examined life, right?

So, in our philosophy workshops, we spend time every session designing experiments to try out new insights in practice. Then, we come back and talk about how they went and what we learned.

Remember how we said at the beginning that the philosophical life isn’t just about thinking and talking but also about choosing and changing? A few experiments will get you moving!

Ready to try out a new perspective?

We’re a small, friendly group with a great sense of humor. We’re excited to meet you, share ideas, hear about your experiences, and think along with you about big life challenges and quests.

Come with us to think deeply and live deliberately!
